A nationally co-ordinated strategy is urgently needed to avoid the discharge of highly contagious ‘therapeutically destitute’ tuberculosis patients back into a careless void, with uniquely tailored solutions including home-based or community care, plus multidisciplinary teams in modern-day sanatoria.
