Who will guard the guards? Medical leadership and conflict of interest in South African healthcare
Abstract
In many countries, debate about conflict of interest in healthcare is turning into action. Organised efforts to recruit specific clinicians to aid product marketing may be difficult to recognise. South African medicine could benefit from a concerted effort by medical leaders to understand and teach about these issues, and to develop methods to counterbalance the influences such conflicts may have on the direction of healthcare.
